Back on the bandwagon…

It’s been hard, but I’ve decided to get back on the bandwagon again.  And I guess when I go all out, I really go all out.  I’ve gone on a bunch of dates in the last month.  I’ve even been crazy enough to jump on a bus to meet someone 5 hours away in a different city last weekend!

The trip turned out very well as I took a leap of faith.  She had contacted me off an online dating site and we had corresponded via email for quite a few weeks.  It seemed like we shared quite a bit of similar interests and she had a quirky sense of humor like mine.  And because we had a long weekend I decided to take an extra day and just head out there with absolutely no expectations.  Mel met me at the bus station and we spent the two days visiting the winter festival to see snow and ice sculptures, and a whole lot of eating.  We chatted a bit, and even snuggled up to watch some olympics.  All things considered it worked out well for a first date.  She’s planning on visiting me in the near future.  However, as well as it went, I still have my doubts.  Distance is a major factor, but also shes already been texting me on a very regular basis.  During our conversations she had complained about the the lack of attention her previous exes had given her.  The other oddity is that she’s a French Canadian girl who is only interested in all things Asian.  For now I’m just going to take it for it is and let it go from here.

I had an earlier date a couple of weeks ago, with this gorgeous Italian Canadian lawyer.  She reminded me quite a bit of Nat and Carol.  Very strong willed and intelligent.  Aside from already having her law degree she’s completing her Masters in Health Administration, can speak computer geek talk (she owns a binary watch), is a foodie, and did I mention gorgeous?  I took her to a trendy new restaurant and I thought we hit it off!  There were some odd bumps in the conversation, but I didn’t get the sense she was necessarily all that into me which also very much reminded me of Nat.  Funny enough I get an email a few days later saying that she really enjoyed my company but her “status” had recently changed and had just started seeing someone. However she also says that she’d still be interested in hanging out with me and would love to get together again. Jagger was right when he said you can’t always get what you want.  Damn him.
